Why did the November 2011 unemployment rate drop and what happens in December?

The November 2011 unemployment rate dropped while workforce participation remained steady or dropped to an even lower percentage of the entire population. Why did the November 2011 unemployment rate drop if more people are not actually working? And what will this do to the January unemployment rates?

* Seasonal hiring for the Christmas rush partially made up for the working aged population growth from immigration and those who completed their education. When those hired for the holiday rush for giants such as UPS and FedEx are laid off, expect unemployment numbers and the overall unemployment rate to rise in for December.

* When someone has given up working, even if they would and could accept a job, they are not counted as unemployed. This reduces the unemployment level, which would be higher if millions were still job hunting.

* When unemployment benefits run out and the individual no longer has a job, they are no longer unemployed. With unemployment benefits running out across the nation such as benefits for 99ers, the official unemployment rate drops even though the numbers of people working has not changed.

* School breaks interfere with the ability of mothers with children to search for work. Yet the fact that they cannot search for work means that they do not count in the ranks of the unemployed. When they start looking again when school starts in January, they will count among the unemployed again.
